October 2020 Chapter Meeting
Due to the current realities with COVID 19, we are going to try something new with our chapter meetings. We are going to be hosting a virtual meeting each month via WebEx. The meetings will continue to be on the third Tuesday from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM. The next meeting will be October 20th. We ask that you continue to register via our website (pmicac.org) and the cutoff will be Friday October 16th. Everyone who registers will receive an email before the meeting with the login information as well as the PDU claim code. Per the PMI code of ethics each individual is responsible for only claiming the PDUs to which you are entitled. Obviously this is a new process for us so I ask everyone's patience and cooperation if there are any hiccups. Feel free to email any questions to Ray Crocker, MBA, PMP.
Speaker: Allan Rice, City Administrator for the City of Hoover
Topic: Responding to Crisis: Standing up structured teams for rapid response
We have all learned a lot in 2020 about change management and quick adaptations to environmental forces. When those environmental forces effect the entire community, public safety organizations are prepared to respond quickly to mitigate risk and bring order to chaos. There are challenges on many fronts: communication, leadership, teamwork, and organization.
Allan Rice, City Administrator for the City of Hoover, will talk about what it was like to stand up an Emergency Operations Center at multiple levels. He will take you through the early days of COVID and the EOC’s response teams; the challenges they faced and the lessons learned along the way.
Bio: Mr. Rice has served as the City Administrator for the City of Hoover for the past 4 years. He served as Executive Director of the Alabama Fire College for 9 years, and has many years of experience in the Emergency Services field. He holds a MPPM from Birmingham Southern College and a BSN from University of Alabama Birmingham.
