Problem Solving with a Pencil

Ways of Working

Presentation Abstract – Problem Solving with a Pencil

In a fast-paced world of digital solutions, the humble pencil remains one of the most powerful tools for problem-solving at our disposal. This session, “Problem-Solving with a Pencil,” equips professionals with practical, written techniques for identifying and solving problems with clarity and focus. Participants will learn to distinguish between symptoms and root causes, utilize visual thinking methods such as time slots, money tracking, and control circles, and apply the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle on paper to drive effective solutions. A key component of this teaching will emphasize the importance of maintaining a personal or team “scoreboard” — a simple, written system for tracking progress and reinforcing accountability. Attendees will walk away with tangible, pencil-and-paper tools they can immediately apply to turn scattered problems into structured solutions.
