Join PMI Central Alabama for an immersive experience exploring leadership, preparedness, and emergency response operations with Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service. Participants will engage directly with public safety professionals while gaining insight into how emergency response organizations serve the community, coordinate resources, and respond to rapidly evolving situations.

The experience will feature a leadership discussion with Fire Chief Cory D. Moon, who will share perspectives from his experience leading one of Birmingham's most critical public safety organizations. Participants will also take part in fire safety, preparedness, and CPR awareness training facilitated by Captain Orlando Reynolds and Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service's Community Risk Reduction Division.

Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of emergency response leadership, communication, preparedness, and community engagement while building practical awareness of fire safety and CPR fundamentals.

 Cory D. Moon

Fire Chief for the City of Birmingham
Cory D. Moon is the Fire Chief for the City of Birmingham, Alabama. Chief Moon leads the largest Fire Department in the State of Alabama, commanding approximately 720 personnel and 32 Fire Stations with an annual operating budget of $100,710,807.01. BFRS responds to over 70,000 emergency incidents annually. He is ultimately responsible for providing fire suppression, emergency medical, special operations, public education and fire prevention services to over 200,000 citizens. Career Chief Moon joined the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service on March 26, 2001 where he rose through the ranks. In a 7-year period, he went from Firefighter / EMT to Fire Chief which is the fastest rise through the ranks in the modern history of Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service. He has served the department as a Firefighter / EMT, Lieutenant (promoted 2012), Captain (promoted 2015), Battalion Chief (promoted 2017), and now as the Fire Chief (appointed by the Honorable Mayor Randall L. Woodfin October 2019). In these leadership roles, he has served as the Chief of Training and Safety, Battalion Chief in Operations, Department Safety Officer, Technical Rescue Team Leader, and Recruit School Instructor. Chief Moon has always been well respected by both Firefighters and Officers of the department and has become known for his balanced demeanor and mediation of issues. Chief Moon serves as a board member for the American Heart Association. Chief Moon also received the Chief Fire Officer & Chief EMS Officer designations from the Center for Public Safety Excellence. Education Chief Moon has a Master of Science degree with a Concentration in Emergency Services Management, Bachelor of Science degree with a Concentration in Fire Science, and an Associate of Science degree with a Concentration in Fire Science. Throughout his career he has continued his education to enhance his professional knowledge, skills, and abilities. Chief Moon has received over 70 Fire Service certifications. Personal Chief Moon is a native of Birmingham, AL. He has been happily married to Lieutenant Charnessa R. Moon since 12/12/12. This union has produced two beautiful daughters: Brooklyn R. Moon & Cali R. Moon.
